WHAT IS DOUBLE STAGE COMPRESSOR?

Up to now, the information is given exclusively for single stage piston compressors; however, the use of double stage compressors are developed to cope with the respective compression ratios that is necessary to obtain extremely low evaporation temperatures in the range of –34.4 °C to -62.2 °C in order to perform the cooling in an effective manner. Double stage compressors are consisted of two parts, i.e., low pressure (or first stage) and high pressure (or second stage). The refrigerant is conveyed to manifold between the two stages after it is compressed by low stage cylinders in a controlled manner. Meanwhile, the refrigerant is cooled down to prevent excessive heat build up. Being cooled in the manifold, the refrigerant is then conveyed to second stage cylinders and delivered to the condenser at the condensing pressure.
